Summaries

A docuseries built around the 2023 University of Texas women's soccer team with a deep dive into the frequently joyous, occasionally crushing, often entertaining sport and its Title IX-fueled history and ethos.

This three-part docuseries frames the concurrent rise of U.S. soccer and women's sports generally through the lens of the University of Texas at Austin women's soccer team, including All-American Lexi Missimo and Head Coach Ange Kelly, a former Canadian World Cup player. We learn why Missimo's parents, outstanding players in their own rights, had limited pro playing options after college. Their experience leads to an exploration of how the sport of soccer grew in the U.S. during the same time period when women's sports in general had started to grow thanks to Title IX. We discover how UT made unique contributions to both. And we follow the charming yet fiercely competitive members of the 2023 team as they learn about how they came to have their current opportunities while trying to over come setbacks to make the most of them.
