An aimless ruffian starts working for a drug baron and his mission is to kill the rival, whose niece he eventually falls for.
The film follows Romeo Rajkumar, a ruffian whose life changes when he falls for Chanda, a drug baron's niece. Rajkumar then starts working for the rival drug baron Shivraj and eventually learns Shivraj wants to marry Chanda against her will. Romeo Rajkumar (Shahid Kapoor) is an aimless youth who arrives in small town of Dhartipur been ruled by two opium drug barons named Shivraj Gurjar (Sonu Sood) and his arch enemy Manik Parmar (Ashish Vidyarthi), controlled by a Mafia don named Ajit Taaka (Srihari), who operates in Hong Kong.Shivraj has raised the price of raw opium which Taaka purchases from him. Sawant (Bharat Dabholkar) is the mediator between Taaka and Shivraj. Shivraj has raised prices by 300% by saying that even his goons have increased salaries from Rs 5000 to Rs 20000.This has not gone down well with Taaka. Shivraj threatens to supply opium to the market directly, cutting of Taaka, & warns Taaka never to enter Dhartipur.Qamar Ali (Mukul Dev) is a Shivraj loyalist.
Rajkumar has arrived in the town very recently and now works for Shivraj. Rajkumar gains employment by saving Shivraj's opium truck being looted by Parmar's men and then returning the truck to Shivraj. Qamar does not trust Rajkumar from the beginning.He gains Shivraj's confidence by saving his life & his opium from numerous attacks from Parmar. Parmar had set up an IED on the road frequented by Shivraj. Rajkumar shows remarkable presence of mind to identify the IED threat and stop Shivraj's car before it hit the IED.
But his life changes forever when he claps eyes on the beautiful, educated Chanda (Sonakshi Sinha). Qamar and Rajkumar have to work together to kill 2 of Manik's aides, but Rajkumar gets distracted by Chanda and Qamar ends up doing all of the work.A corrupt policeman plays both Parmar and Shivraj and arranges a meeting for a compromise. At the meeting Parmar betrays Shivraj, but Rajkumar saves the day by defeating all the goons assembled by Parmar.
Rajkumar is so besotted with Chanda, that one time he jumps into a burning building to save an old man, who wanted to die just to escape his wife. Rajkumar risked his life and limb just for Chanda. But every-time Rajkumar does something heroic for Chanda, she fails to take notice of him.Rajkumar finally confronts Chanda and tells her that he loves her. What Rajkumar doesn't know is that Chanda is an orphan who's been raised by Manik Parmar.
After some persistent wooing, Chanda falls for Rajkumar's charms. Chanda realizes that Rajkumar has saved her live on several occasions.Just when their love was about to flourish, Shivraj and Parmar compromise and Parmar decides to get Chanda married to Shivraj, against Chanda's wish. The wedding is set for the day of Dusshehra in the following month.
Rajkumar declares that Chanda and he love each other. Angered Rajkumar beats Shivraj's men and challenges him, saying that he will marry Chanda in front of Shivraj on the day of Dusshehra.Shivraj wants to maintain his position in front of the village, and in front of Chanda. He decides to touch Chanda only after marriage, and to kill Rajkumar prior to the wedding day.
Chanda and Rajkumar take Shivraj for a ride. Chanda indicates to Rajkumar on phone that her suitor would be stylish and would speak English poetry. Shivraj does everything to impress her, but ends up looking like a caricature.Shivraj is enraged when Chanda and Rajkumar hoodwink him at the Saree emporium. Shivraj tries to disrobe Chanda, but she challenges Shivraj to first defeat Rajkumar and then she vows to disrobe herself.Parmar beats Chanda with a belt for insulting Shivraj. Rajkumar abducts Parmar and returns the favor.
Furious, Shivraj plans to get Rajkumar killed in an encounter by his pet police officer.But in return, gets a shocking surprise when it is revealed that Rajkumar actually works for Don Ajit Takka and was sent to Dhartipur only to take over the drug cartel to which both Shivraj and Parmar owe allegiance.
Rajkumar captures Shivraj's truck full of drugs and drives it to Takka, revealing he himself was a big gangster all along. After giving Shivraj's stolen truck to Takka, he discovers that the truck was empty. In a twist of events, it turns out that Shivraj and Takka had joined hands, and purposely made Rajkumar steal the empty truck. Shivraj and Takka brutally kill Rajkumar and bury him.
Shivraj starts his wedding celebrations with Chanda, only to be interrupted by the still alive Rajkumar, who is shown to have been rescued by one of Shivraj's henchmen Qamar after he was buried. Qamar had been helping Rajkumar with his quest for Chanda, ever since he challenged Shivraj publicly.Shivraj's men back off because they are now friends with Rajkumar, hence leading to a one on one fight between the two. Finally, Rajkumar kills Shivraj with a power punch to the neck and later Don Takka with a ceramic tile.Story ends with all the men beating Parmar, while a severely injured Rajkumar and Chanda walk away hand in hand happily.
