Poraatam focuses on the struggles faced by a community of tribal people who are being displaced from their mountain homes for the personal gains of the greedy government officials.

The tribal girl Semparuthi residing is Mullaiparai Village Tamil Nadu, Ooty tries to meet the district collector and narrate the incidents that happened there. But since she could not meet him and succeed in her attempts, she immolates herself. This makes the Collector to see her and Semparuthi apprises him of the happenings, which were very agonising. Mullaiparai people lead their lives by getting guidance and inspiration from Ondamoopan (Nassar). Forest department minister Kariappa plans to grab some areas of the village with the connivance of the officials. He harasses the villages with the help of the police. Muthu (Mahendran) and Kumaran who oppose him are put in the prison and brings out the truth by waging a struggle against the criminals in the courts. The law punishes the perpetrators. But Kariappa and Jamal get bail and are released. Muthu and Kumaran get enraged and with the help of some others, they attack Kariappa and kill them.—Wikipedia
