Tired of struggling, Lilia, played by Sara Montiel, moves to the city to live with her aunt, a former actress. There she strives to become a singer and meets Raul a singer, played by Agustin Lara, who helps her succeed.

Trying to hide her tarnished reputation due to a relationship with a gangster, Lilia moves to the big city and acquires a new identity as Rosaura. Her goal is to become a successful cabaret singer and she is lucky to find Raul, also a singer, who falls in love with her and introduces her to the famous composer Agustin Lara. Lara takes her under his wing and prepares her for a big debut singing with his big orchestra in a plush nightclub.
