A traffic jam like a polonaise of cars: nobody can escape. A cynical record plugger, two sisters, a quarreling couple and an illegal man from Poland are confronted with each other and with themselves.

In the film Polonaise, traffic jams have become a phenomenon in which traffic jam call girls, hairdressers or photographers make the endless wait more pleasant. The film follows a number of people in a traffic jam on the A5. Central is a nervous Polish man in an expensive Saab Cabrio who is sought by the police. A red Panda transports the heavily pregnant Hilde and her cynical sister. Hilde is worried because she has not seen her friend after an argument. In an old Saab a young couple is fighting. She is a 'yuppenkut' who puts her marriage at stake for a parking permit and her smoking ega is fed up. Charlie the record plugger, drives his son's car. He likes traffic jams because he can deal with his business undisturbed and meet his secret love, traffic jam call girl Nena. While the characters are increasingly confronted with each other and themselves, the tensions run higher. A radio talks chats the story lines together.
