Three young men raised by a couple of Spanish refugees who took them in are called to the bedside of their adoptive father after he suffers a heart attack.

Pablo, a war veteran in Spain, feels that he is on the verge of death and sends for his three adopted sons, originally from Liège, in the footsteps of his turbulent past. On their way they meet two manipulative old anarchists, a captain of the Guardia Civil who is strange in many respects, a former torero owner of a bistro, and a commander who confuses his barracks with an opera house. Charlie, one of the three brothers, finds love with beautiful Angela, and the other two find meaning in their own lives.
