Synopsis

Valeria, a successful Afro-Finnish soccer player, is chosen as her team's new captain. Her new position creates pressure and uncomfortable feelings as she searches for her own truth under the pressure of others' expectations. Aurora, a non-binary worker, would like to find their place and be accepted, but feels invisible. Nora is looking for love and feels she is only seen through her dark skin and curly hair. Racist comments echo into close relationships and make Nora question the intentions of her new crush. Selma is locked in underground tunnels with her choir during rehearsals. She is forced to find her way out of the tunnels and in the darkness she encounters her nightmare of Finnishness. Activist Piera Niillas dreams of a society free from oppression. Together with their own Saami community, they take part in a political debate about their own rights. The Quiet Man is pensive as he walks through the city streets. He sees references to the experiences of many others.

The multi-story Flocks depicts minority experiences in Finland in the 2020s, as young adults from different backgrounds navigate the structures of society. Feelings of belonging and being rejected, and the desire to be accepted and valued in communities, Finnishness and relationships intertwine the different stories in a single day. The fictional film is based on real-life situations. It makes room for stories that are not heard and highlights issues that have been avoided. Tense social situations escalate, transporting the film's characters into each others' realities.
