Tonnemann is from the extreme tip of Islands Brygge and has had enough of the monumental landfill that spreads as a close neighbour. With a suitcase in hand, however, he meets a woman, and together they have a son, Tom. He grows up in a time of great upheaval, experiences the drama of war and early love with the girl next door Mona. Behind it all, the landfill casts its long shadow over his life.—Nordiskfilm
