What does it mean to be an out spoken artist and advocate for gay and womens rights amidst the violence and oppression of present day Lebanon and the Middle East? By documenting the day-to-day obstacles faced by the crew and actors during the filming of the controversial film Out Loud, and through interviews with human rights professionals and academics, Out Loud the Documentary attempts to shed a glimmer of light on the complicated answer to this question. Out Loud the Documentary follows director Samer Daboul and his team through an examination of Lebanese and Middle Eastern reactions to issues dealing with womens and gay rights in the Middle East. With the use of raw footage and underground video-images, the film documents the cruel and often violent reactions of local Lebanese to the film crew and actors while on location in Lebanon. Through interviews with human rights professionals and academics, the documentary attempts to make sense of these reactions and the forces behind them.
