Young man from a good background turns to crime to keep night club girlfriend showered with gifts.

Stefano Carli, a young man from a good background, is basically honest, but he has some very dishonest friends. When he falls in love with night club girl Marisa, he finds himself borrowing more and more money to keep her happy. Deciding to join a gang of robbers, he assumes leadership of the gang when the current leader is arrested. After a series of lucrative jobs Stefano is able to live a rich lifestyle and shower Marisa with expensive gifts. However, she begins to suspect what is happening and sends an anonymous letter to the police. Stefano is drawn into a trap, but at the last moment Marisa tries to warn him and gets killed in his place. A new job goes wrong and the police are now on the gang's tracks. Some of the criminals are killed, the others are captured. Stefano attempts to escape by boarding a ship. Discovered and cornered by the harbour police, he recklessly tries to escape by climbing a crane.
