After a disturbing call from his mother, Johan has no other choice but to leave Norway and return to the hometown he left many years ago. Back in Volendam, Johan must face the past from which he's been trying to escape.

The great fire in a Volendam nightclub upset the Holland town as a whole, bust especially the many burn victims and their families. Johan left the country to start a new life as fisherman in Norway, but returns on holiday to show his home to his Norwegian girl on the occasion of a cousin's wedding. His brother is in jail, his parents split up over whether to support him, and his mother remains too obsessed by the fire to move on. Even his horribly burn-scarred best friend Chris can't get over.
