A Japanese Christian and teacher decides to create a Christian university in Kyoto in 1875.
Joseph Hardy Nissima, better known as Jo Niijima, an educator and Protestant Christian decides to establish a Christian university, Doshisha University, in Kyoto in 1875, in order to offer not just a well rounded education, but also to teach Christianity. He hires Japanese and foreign professors who are also Christians. He marries his wife, Yae, in 1876, who is also an educator, and she becomes a member of the faculty. They go through many trials and tribulations in order to establish what is now one of the most prestigious universities in Japan.
