Synopsis

Only In Defence from award-winning film director, writer and producer Dean I. Anderson was produced in 1998 as a television pilot.

It followed a string of highly successful documentary dramas and evolved from an idea developed in 1996 to focus on the Royal Military Police as an original treatment for television drama.

Only In Defence starred Simon Williams as Colonel Conrad, the commanding officer of a covert British Army unit responsible for protecting VIPs designated as At Risk targets. Among the officers under his command was the beautiful and incisive Major Cassandra Jane Noble.

A martial arts expert and dynamic trouble-shooter, Cass was scared of nothing but her own torturous demons. She was traumatised by flashbacks of an accident resulting in the instant death of her boyfriend, Captain Peter Smith.

The psychological battle fought by the popular and likeable Cass was not the only sub-plot. Sergeant Michael Cox experienced fundamental character changes following a mental breakdown, was involved in arms smuggling, and sought revenge in an explosive way when his girlfriend ended their relationship.

Only In Defence packed a punch with its gripping storyline and non-stop action. Scenes of high-speed chases and explosions involved dangerous and technically demanding stunts. Their credibility was achieved with the help of the late Roy Alon, stunt co-ordinator and performer par excellence, recorded in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's most prolific stuntman.

Unwittingly, this television pilot proved to be a catalyst for Dean I. Anderson. After its completion the Yorkshire born and bred producer changed direction and formed his company Tick The Box Productions Limited, specialising in films for international horror markets.
