Pigheaded Bavarian rural fishmonger and trout breeder Fred Sattler has been alienating everyone for 20 years, and now even his wife (Hen)Rike has had enough, while the business suffered gravely too: she moves in uninvited with daughter Kathrin, a would be fashion designer, in Münich, where handsome but still unemployed lawyer fiance Hans Klein finds her presence ruins every attempt to be romantic, so after the ring proposal the whole marriage concept falls through. Fred meanwhile is told by fish-hating creditor Charlotte Görres time is up for his crushing debt, yet manages with her to turn the business around into 'experience', with cooking classes and involvement in the annual town festival. Rike dates her still single first love Bruno Maijer, only to realize she isn't over Fred and returns home, at first sight jealous of Charlotte, yet staying in her B&B and entering the 'fish stabbing' contest against Fred, which resets their rapport.—KGF Vissers
