Lafcadio HEARN visited Japan as a newspaper reporter in 1890. Within the same year, he found a job as an English language teacher at a local town, Matsue. Having experienced many things in the traditional Japanese society, which impressed and attracted him so much, he got married with Fumi, a woman of a poor former samurai class family. With her help, he collects many folklore later fruited in his piece known as "Kwaidan".
