1985-set socially-relevant horror pitting a junkie against an evil creature manifested from the fear and loathing which resulted during the AIDS crisis.
MTV, big hair, McMansions, disenfranchised youth, "trickle-down" economics, a heroin epidemic, and AIDS. In the face of this new devastating disease, society's fear and loss of compassion manifests as a predatory evil which thrives on human misery; an evil which is pitted against the feisty spirit of a young junkie named Greggie Hindmarsh. Greggie is certain his days are numbered but he refuses to go down without a fight. While his terminally-ill best friend remains ever on his mind, Greggie is lured to New Ventry to act as a "Renfeld" servant to the newly-aroused creature. However, Greggie's defiance and indomitable spirit prove hard for the Vampire to break and Greggie must ultimately decide: humanity or immortality.—David C. Munroe
