Synopsis

Wallis (JAY R. FERGUSON) lives a carefree but utterly complacent existence in St. Louis, Missouri, running a small consignment shop inherited from his parents. Resistant to change and lacking any real ambition, he bides his time obsessing over old record collections and neglecting to mow his overgrown lawn. He often hangs out with a few pals at his favorite bar and is quietly mourning a few of life's losses. Judy (SHERYL LEE), a single mother and school cafeteria worker, has given up on her dream of being a teacher. She lives protected by thick emotional walls, focusing all her efforts on providing for her two boys, Eric and Roy. There is the distinct probability that Judy's previous romantic relationships have been disasters. They live in her childhood home with her mother, Margaret (GRACE ZABRISKIE), who only reinforces Judy's resigned outlook on life. A cynical survivor of abusive relationships, Margaret dismisses Wallis as no more than your common variety loser and is threatened by his burgeoning interest in her daughter and their family. The impact of Judy and Wallis falling in love reverberates throughout their small community and over the course of just a few months, each character experiences an essential transformation. For Judy and Wallis, discovering each other unveils a reality they hadn't known existed. When these two bruised souls fall in love, Wallis wakes up from his dreamlike monotony and Judy comes to understand that love is never lost nor wasted - no matter what happens in the end.
