Lena Taubner, the young police pathologist in charge, teams up with the paleontologist Adam Novak to solve the mystery. They are stunned to discover two real Neanderthals, Neo and badly injured Karr, who have escaped from the undercover laboratory of molecular biologist Dr. Albert Caspers.
