Summaries

War crimes in Warsaw have been described in hundreds of books, articles and documentaries. However, little is known about what happened during the German occupation in the north-eastern part of today's Warsaw, which during the Second World War was a remote suburb of the capital. It is commonly believed that nothing important or unusual happened in these rural, distant outskirts of Warsaw. Meanwhile, the quite recent history of today's Bialoleka abounds in dramatic events. Most of the pre-war inhabitants died, escaped or were deported, and their houses and factories where they worked were destroyed. The figures of the executioners responsible for the murders, mass executions and other forms of persecution of the Polish and Jewish communities remain anonymous. The film, in the form of a historical investigation, introduces us to these facts and allows us to find information about these people and stimulate deep reflection.—G
