A two-character psychological drama. One is an elderly, wealthy patient who has been admitted to a clinic, suffering from a profound depression after the death of her only grandson. The other is her nurse, a mysterious figure called Delia, who may or may not be the struggling unqualified nurse she says she is. As the two women begin to exchange stories, they also reappear as characters in one another's dreams. Delia becomes her patient's careless, good-looking sister, long dead, and her glamorous, self-centred daughter; the old lady becomes Delia's mother, begging on her death bed for forgiveness for keeping Delia apart from the man she loved.
