Summaries

In 'My Father The Fool', visual artist Inez de Vega inserts herself as the protagonist into two iconic films: 'Gilda' (1946) directed by Charles Vidor, and 'Pierrot le Fou' (1965) directed by Jean Luc Godard. By interacting with the actors and sequences from these old movies and having them play out upon her body, she achieves a sense of spatial distortion in which the work exists halfway between the original films and halfway between her audience, not only as a film but as a piece of sculpture. Written, directed, acted and edited by de Vega herself, 'My Father The Fool' is an intense Freudian psychodrama. The deconstructed narrative portrays the anguished plight of a woman attempting to escape her increasingly unstable reality and live inside the movies.—Anonymous
