A Mountie is accused of killing his wife in a fatal fall from a luxury condo in 1981.

In 1981, former RCMP Undercover Agent "Patrick Kelly" was accused of causing the mysterious death of his wife. Managing to elude the authorities, Kelly married his second wife, and continued to live the extravagant lifestyle he so desperately desired. However, in 1984, based on the testimony of a key witness, Kelly was finally convicted of the first-degree murder of his wife, (allegedly by throwing her off the balcony of their luxury high-rise condo). Patrick Kelly was an undercover officer in the RCMP's drug squad based in Toronto in the early 1970s. As an undercover officer, Kelly would admit to being able to change his emotional façade on a whim to suit the needs of the time. Because of this ability, he is seen as a charismatic person, often making people do what he wants. Despite only earning a meager wage in his job as an undercover officer, he was able to live a lavish lifestyle based on other dealings: in antiques, in loans from a childhood friend named Albert Malinson, and in an insurance settlement from a house fire which destroyed many of his antiques. Because of the latter and other incidents, Kelly's relationship with the authorities becomes strained (they believing he set the fire) which led to him quitting his job. One day, his French wife, Marie, is killed when she falls from the balcony of their lavish downtown apartment. Kelly would also admit that theirs was a turbulent relationship, he having other women on the side, one of whom, Linda Martin, he quickly marries. Many believe that Kelly murdered Marie, despite proclaiming his innocence. But the authorities dig through his tangled life pre and post Marie's death to try and prove him a liar, they always seemingly coming up with only circumstantial evidence.—Huggo
