Grace is a teenager from Texas who wishes to go to Paris after her high-school graduation, so she and her friend Emma work as waitresses to earn for the trip but fall short. Her mother and stepfather Robert offer to chip in--but they suggest that they can send Robert's daughter Meg along, although she's reluctant to go because she is still mourning her mother. The travel package the girls get has them staying in a cramped room and their tour speeds them past every sight. When they reach the Eiffel Tower, Meg meets and connects with a guy--and their bus leaves without them. The girls are now stuck in Paris, and when it starts to rain they scurry into a posh hotel to dry off. There they run into spoiled British heiress Cordelia Scott, whose family has sent her there to participate in some charity event--and she looks just like Grace. Cordelia decides to blow off the obligation and sneak off somewhere, and Grace's friends make her look and talk like Cordelia, and when they leave, the hotel staff escorts the trio to Cordelia's room, thinking Grace is Cordelia, and the girls sleep there. The next day the staff tells "Cordelia" that her car is ready to take her to the airport. Meg wants to drop the whole thing, but Emma is having a great time and convinces them to get into the car. They learn that they are going to Monte Carlo, where the charity event will take place. When they arrive, the son of the organizer meets them and Grace takes a liking to him, but must continue to be Cordelia.—[email protected]
Grace Bennett (Selena Gomez) is a Texas high-school student who works as a waitress with her best friend Emma Perkins (Katie Cassidy) to save money for a week-long trip to Paris after graduation. Grace has been saving for the trip for 4 years.
Grace's stepfather Robert (Brett Cullen) and mother Pamela (Andie MacDowell) pays for her stepsister Meg Kelly (Leighton Meester) to serve as chaperon on the trip, as the parents want the step-sisters to get closer together and bond during the trip. Robert also gives an airline upgrade to everyone to get them to agree.Meg is decidedly unhappy about being asked to babysit Grace without her consent. Robert argues that Meg has stopped living her life since her mother died and wants her to use this trip to start enjoying life again. Paris also used to be her mother's favorite destination.Grace also hates Meg as Meg is always looking to upstage Grace by humiliating or publicly embarrassing her. Meg considers Emma to be unsophisticated and without any class.
Despite Emma's boyfriend Owen (Cory Monteith) proposing marriage to persuade her to stay. Emma says that she has never been outside of Texas, and this trip means the world to her.The trio lands in Paris. Their tour company has compressed many tourist attractions in a 5-day schedule, which means that they don't spend a lot of time at any single place. The tour kept only 20 minutes at the Louvre. The girls are further slowed down as Emma is wearing 4-inch heels, which pain when she has to walk fast or climb stairs. The hotel is beyond basic, and the food served is not local, and the tour company gives barely enough time to even sniff it, let alone eat it.
Meg complains a lot, but Grace refuses to have her spirits deflated due to this. Meg meets Riley, an Australian backpacker and is attracted to him. After being left behind by their tour guide at the Eiffel tower (the girls spent too much time at the top of the tower and the tour bus left without them), the three girls seek refuge from the Paris rain in a posh hotel.
There, the hotel staff and paparazzi mistake Grace for Celebutante British heiress Cordelia Winthrop-Scott, Grace's double, who leaves rather than stay to attend an auction for a Romanian charity for which she is to donate an expensive Bulgari necklace.Meg and Emma see Cordelia while Grace is in the toilet & figure out a scheme for Grace to pose as Cordelia so that they can stay in her room for the night (as Cordelia has already announced that she is not staying the night and is travelling to Monaco the following morning). The Americans spend the night in Cordelia's suite. The next day the hotel staff escort them to a limousine to take them to the airport, while her luggage travels in a different car. Before Grace can figure anything out, she is on a private plane to Monte Carlo with Cordelia's luggage. Grace argues that the trip is paid for, whether "Cordelia" takes it or not.Reading about Cordelia in a magazine, the girls realize that Cordelia is a spoiled brat and prone to scandals.
At Monte Carlo the girls meet Theo Marchand (Pierre Boulanger), the son of the philanthropist hosting Cordelia. The Marchand family is the one conducting the auction. Theo dislikes Cordelia's spoiled nature. In their room, Grace feels that this is all getting to be too much, but Emma won't back out now.Latre that evening Theo escorts them to a ball (The girls got their dresses from Cordelia's luggage), where Grace successfully fools Cordelia's aunt Alicia (Catherine Tate) (Meg had read up on Cordelia's profile in Hello magazine and coached Grace quickly on the basic facts) and Emma dances with a Prince Domenico Da Silvano (Giulio Berruti). Emma finds a Bvlgari necklace in the luggage and Grace wears it to the ball.Emma's luggage is at their tour guide hotel, and when Owen calls her, it is picked up the hotel staff who do not speak English. Owen decides to come to Paris and meet Emma.
Theo informs "Cordelia" that the necklace she is wearing (Cordelia's necklace was in her luggage) & will be donating to charity, will help raise money for 20 schools. Meg realizes that Alicia has totally bought that Grace is Cordelia. The next day, Meg has a huge fight with Emma at the beach. Emma knows that Meg doesn't think highly of her and retorts that Meg only wants people to be miserable around her. Meg leaves and is strolling around when she reunites with Riley (Luke Bracey), an Australian backpacker she briefly met in Paris. They find they have things in common and spend time together before he leaves for Italy. Riley says that he was a rugby player and was paralyzed for a year after a bad fall. He worked hard to recover, and now doesn't want to waste a single day of his life.
Theo takes Grace to a polo match. After Grace is unable to play polo well, Alicia discovers the impersonation. Believing that her spoiled niece hired a lookalike to take her place while she parties, and not wishing to disrupt the charity auction, Alicia threatens Grace to successfully continue the impersonation or be arrested. Alicia thinks Cordelia has hired a lookalike to get away from the charity function organized specifically for her.Theo is attracted to Cordelia's pleasant personality, while Emma's prince invites her to a party on a yacht. Emma briefly wears Cordelia's necklace before giving it to Meg for safekeeping (who puts it in Riley's backpack as they go about sight-seeing in Monte Carlo), but at the yacht she dislikes the prince's arrogance toward the servants and leaves.
Cordelia arrives in Monte Carlo, as does Owen. Owen found Grace's picture on a newspaper posing with Meg and Emma, announcing the charity auction in Monte Carlo. Owen hopes to reconcile with Emma. After Owen mistakes Cordelia for Grace, Cordelia discovers the impersonation. She finds that the necklace is missing as Meg forgot to retrieve it from Riley's backpack before he left France and calls the police. The girls fail to placate an angry Cordelia; although Riley discovers and returns the necklace, Cordelia threatens to withdraw the necklace from the auction. To prevent this, the girls tie Cordelia up so Grace can again impersonate her.
Cordelia escapes and reveals Grace's fraud at the auction. She demands that Grace be arrested, but after Grace's sincere public confession Alicia bids the unexpectedly large amount of Euro 6 million for the necklace to save her.Meg joins Riley on his travel around the world; Owen and Emma move into their own home in Texas; and Theo Marchand and Grace reunite at the Romanian charity.
