Synopsis

When Praveenah arrives at a boarding school in Ooty, she discovers that her classmate Sabari is haunted by the crushing weight of survivor's guilt. Years later, their paths converge again on a thrilling Himalayan biking adventure, where Praveenah sets out to help Sabari confront his demons and find redemption from the suffocating grip of guilt.

Minmini is a poignant and powerful drama by Halitha Shameem, exploring the complex emotions of survivor's guilt with unflinching honesty and heartfelt depth shot over an extraordinary eight-year period.

Shot in two phases, 2015 and 2022, this deliberate approach allowed child actors to mature and reprise their roles as adults lending a remarkable continuity to the narrative.

Elaborating on the drive to write a story on this subject, she shares it was a 'heartening' experience. "This (teenage) phase of life is inclined to purest emotions, mostly found in extremity that might look ambiguous for others outside the zone. Be it the celebration of success, the joy of love and pain of loss, adolescents are prone to high doses. This raised myriad questions in me."

The film also brings on board Khatija Rahman, Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman and Saira Banu's daughter as the music composer. "Khatija is a fresh voice and she is set to revolutionize the music industry. Her exposure in world music comes alive in sounds that have a global appeal in this musically-demanding film," says Halitha, who has made the film in both Tamil and Malayalam, considering her growing fan base in Kerala.
