On May 14, 1961 the eyes of the world focused squarely on Anniston, Alabama. As the bus carrying Freedom Riders entered Anniston, a violent mob attacked and burned the bus. That night, major television networks carried images, which made their way around the world. That act thrust Anniston into the glare of an international spotlight and left a permanent scar. To the world, Anniston was just a typical southern town. But Anniston's black and white leaders banned together to let citizens know that they would not stand for the violent atrocities happening elsewhere around the country during this tumultuous time. Mine Eyes Have Seen tells the story of how one small southern town made a difference and shares stories of those who remember.—Anonymous
