A woman from Scotland, while traveling in Colombia, begins to notice strange sounds. Soon she begins to think about their appearance.

From the extraordinary mind of Palme D'or winning director Apichatpong Weerasethakul, and starring Academy Award winner Tilda Swinton, comes a bewildering drama about a Scottish woman, who, after hearing a loud 'bang' at daybreak, begins experiencing a mysterious sensory syndrome while traversing the jungles of Colombia.

Unable to describe, let alone comprehend, the ghastly loud bang that woke her up one seemingly ordinary night, Jessica, a Scottish botanist living in Medellín, embarks on an unsettling journey to figure out the origin of the startling sound. Now, Jessica can't rid herself of the endless sleepless nights. As a result, plagued by profound confusion and vivid delusions, Jessica ends up in the lush, tangled forests of Bogotá in search of answers and illumination. However, not everyone can handle the truth. Is unsuspecting Jessica prepared for the shocking, transcendental revelation?—Nick Riganas

A Scottish orchid farmer (Swinton) visiting her ill sister in Bogotá, Colombia, befriends a young musician (Urrego) and a French archaeologist (Balibar) in charge of monitoring a century-long construction project to tunnel through the Andes mountain range.
