In 1939, as the air raid sirens sound over Moscow, a young man, Alyosha, falls in love with a telegraph operator called Mashenka.
Telegraph operator Mashenka Stepanova is a sanitary worker. During a drill, she meets taxi driver Aleksey Solovyov. Because of Aleksey's infatuation with another girl, Masha breaks up with him. They will meet again only for a few minutes during the Finnish War: Aleksey is a tanker who, after being wounded, is sent on leave for 12 days, and Masha is a nurse who has just returned from the front line.—Tango Papa
Heading home for an air-raid, shy Mashenka meets handsome cab driver Alyosha. The two date and when Alyosha falls ill, Mashenka stays by his bedside. But when he recovers she's forced to realize that he doesn't care about her.
