Maria, a beautiful girl, baptized by Father Gavriil, joins gang leader Davelis and returns to her village to take revenge on the people who had treated her badly.

In 1854, after the revolution against the Ottoman Empire in 1821, the graceful dark-eyed beauty, Maria, is the talk of the town among the male population of the small village of Pentagioi in Central Greece. However, the unattainable woman has already fallen head-over-heels in love with the handsome sheepherder, Dimitris Tourkakis, only to spark the envy of the community's young women when Emperor Otto, too, is fascinated by Maria at the village's festival. A few days later, Maria finds herself wrongfully accused of the brutal murder of her brother, and after two long years in prison, she joins a vicious gang of bandits, bent on revenge and murder. Will Maria Pentagiotissa teach all those who wronged her a lesson?—Nick Riganas
