Synopsis

Maria Eveliina's life changed dramatically at the age of 15 when she found out her father wasn't her biological father.

Maria has to cope on her own and she takes a deep look into herself. She begins to feel a need to both confront her past and understand her roots. Maria goes on to the same journey that her unknown Albanian father took two decades earlier. During the journey she faces her fears and emotions and tries to get the life back in control. The multi-stop road trip from Northern Finland to Albania, is accompanied by the documentary film-maker. Together they set to find Maria's unknown past and future.

Maria Eveliina - Riding a Train of Thought is a sweet and honest look at growing up, and overcoming it with a sense of humor and realism. You will laugh and cry with Maria as she goes in search of her fathers roots to better understand herself and her responses to what seems to be an uncaring world.

The story covers up almost 20 years of the main character Maria Eveliina. She takes us along on the journey of a little girl, a rebelling teen and a lost young adult. The themes of feeling lost, unstable emotions and growing up in the modern consumerist society together with the pressure of succeeding and being somebody are universal. The theme is an mix of two very different cultures, and draws a versatile portrait of open minded young with an interesting story to tell.

Poetic mid-length documentary film Maria Eveliina - Riding a Train of Thought is character driven portrait.
