Mimi has tried everything to become the bride to Alan, but he chooses Elizabeth instead. The ironic part is that Mimi's mother writes romance novels and neither one has had any luck with men. So Mimi decides to get a job as an illustrator at the New York Chronicle where her friend Jimmy works. When Alan and Liz return from their honeymoon, Alan wants to keep Mimi at his side, and Mimi has no objections - in the beginning.—Tony Fontana <[email protected]>

The still at home young adult daughter of successful romance novelist Meg Swift, Mimi Swift has placed all her eggs in one basket, namely to become Mrs. Alan Wythe, forgoing the pursuit of a career or having a social life with others in the process. Therefore, Mimi becomes heartbroken when she becomes the literal bridesmaid in Alan and Elizabeth Kent announcing their engagement, Elizabeth a mutual friend. Alan could probably admit that his choice of Elizabeth as a bride is due at least in part to her wealth, Alan and Mimi who have no money of their own. Having a front seat to the proceedings, Mimi is able to hold her emotions in check, but after all is said and done, she still has Alan in her sights as her husband. Needing to begin a life of her own, Mimi ends up getting a job in the Art Department of the New York Chronicle newspaper alongside Meg's friend, Jimmy Kilmartin, its staff artist, and getting her own apartment close to work. Despite Jimmy always seeming to be there for both her and her mother, Mimi has never much liked him in he being too smart for his own good. In this post-marriage period, Mimi, Alan and Elizabeth may get a different perspective of their interrelationships with Jimmy as always being on the side to watch the proceedings and to be there for Mimi no matter what happens.—Huggo
