A less than daring aspiring travel writer tries out extreme sports in order to write a magazine article, with the help of an extreme sports photographer.
NYC-based copy editor, Alex, is sent to Ridgeline Resort, an extreme sports outpost, to write a story for a travel writing competition. At first, she fails at everything - much to the chagrin of Cole, an extreme sports enthusiast who thinks this city girl should head back to New York. But when Alex offers to assist Cole with his local arts festival, he reluctantly obliges to be her guide as she faces her fears doing one extreme sport after the next.—Happy_Evil_Dude
Alex Burns is a copy editor at Around the World, a New York based travel magazine, the job despite she never having done any travel of her own. That may change when the editor-in-chief, Peter McHugh, announces that he wants to expand the magazine by broadening the scope of their stories, he having an open contest among staff to write an article of their choice, with the person writing the best article having it featured as the cover of their next edition, being given a first class ticket to anywhere in the world, and most importantly being promoted to full staff writer with continual access to that travel she so desires. Alex envisions her travel including being pampered at five star resorts and looking stylish while being pampered, while Peter implies that real travel writers aren't afraid to rough it in out of the way places. After coming across his work online without any other information about him beyond he being based in the mountains of Ridgeline, Colorado, Alex believes her story should focus on seemingly reclusive adventure photographer Cole Taylor and what makes him tick. Peter, however, tells her what would be a better story is for Alex, known as a somewhat uncoordinated and safe person, the latter as demonstrated by her relationship with conservative investment banker Barton Kane, is to embark on some of those extreme winter mountain adventures herself that Cole photographs, writing about what it's like from a novice's perspective and overcoming her fears. In Ridgeline, Alex discovers that Cole is the person with who she had a few less than comfortable encounters, he who considers her a menace to others on the mountain. She also discovers that he is not a recluse, but would rather have the focus be on his work rather than himself. Rather than ambush him with lies as was her original plan, Alex decides to be up front about her reason for being in Ridgeline and needing someone like him who is adept at everything adventure-related to help her overcome her fears and write the article. He agrees if only because she volunteers to help him with Winter Walk, an event being held at Ridgeline with proceeds to go to his charitable foundation, he not the type to do "meet and greets" which really is what is required to bring in the money. In the process of Cole helping Alex break out of her adventure shell, Alex in turn ends up inspiring him, gallery-worthy photos which he has not taken in over two years. Alex may have to make some tough decisions when Peter implies to her that changing the focus of the article back to Cole is his preferred option, something to which she knows that he would never agree, and something she may have to do without his okay if she proceeds down that path.—Huggo
Famous nature photographer Cole Taylor avoids the limelight, living quietly in Ridgeline winter resort near Denver. Having inadvertently helped out ultimate klutz Alex Burns, a big city travel magazine copy writer who dared not object when her editor offered her a first field assignment, on her experiences trying out extreme sports, which she learn from his gallery manager Max to be his thing, he's convinced to try teaching her in exchange for help with Winter Walk, to annual fundraiser festival for his foundation to offer winter sport opportunities to underprivileged kids. She's scared of heights and everything else, he gets her to try and progress, while her Wall Street boyfriend Barton starts looking less attractive. Somehow she inspires Cole to kick-start his career and overcome his fear of publicity, starting with a meet and greet for fans and his foundation, while Cupid lurks.—KGF Vissers
