The first documentary film series that tells the whole story - the full scope and impact that AIDS and HIV are having on our world. AIDS has nearly disappeared from public consciousness, but the disease lives on. In fact, AIDS is spreading at an alarming rate among certain populations. And while science may be within striking distance of a cure, the obstacles to eradicating the disease - scientific, political and social - are as formidable as ever. When AIDS first surfaced in 1980, it entered our lives swiftly and viciously - a new, seemingly unstoppable dark force that ravaged communities, claimed millions of lives, cost billions of dollars and caused incredible stresses on society. As it swept across the US, AIDS killed more Americans than every conflict from World War II through Iraq combined. It changed the course of society, politics, activism and culture forever. Since the beginning of the epidemic, more than 70 million men, women and children have been infected with the HIV virus and about 35 million people have died of AIDS. Nearly a million people still die every year from AIDS. In 2017 (the latest date available), more than 36 million people globally were still living with HIV.
