He has questions about the meaning of life but no one can help him solves those questions. When his mother unexpectedly passed away, he begins on a path of self-destruction.
One night while walking alone on the streets of LA, Gary stumbles into a strange Buddhist temple where he meets a monk who gives him a mysterious potion, which will "give him all that he seeks." He takes it thinking it is some kind of experimental drug, but when he wakes up the next morning, he has no memory of what happened the night before. He thinks that he must have just blacked out, but suddenly discovers he has uncanny mental abilities. He has a photographic memory and can comprehend extremely difficult mathematical equations. He finds that he can read books quickly and understand concepts that he couldn't have dreamed of understanding before. He develops an interest in complex stock trading strategies and his social skills are dramatically improved. He realizes maybe wealth is the key to a ultimate good life.
Eager to put his new skills to the test, Gary decides to invest in Forex, a sub-par stock trading company. But to get started, he needs money to invest. The banks decline his crazy loan request, and he is left with no other option than to take a high-risk loan from JACKIE, a cabal boss with ties to an international organized crime ring. But he takes the loan and agrees to return her money in five days or pay the consequences. Yet with his new abilities, he easily makes a million dollars in just 3 days of investing. He is on top of the world and buys a sports car, convinced that his newfound life of luxury will impress Louise so much that she will take him back. However his cocky attitude makes it even worse and she vows to never speak to him again.
He meets with Jackie to return his money and he is shocked to discover that he was able to triple the loan in a matter of days. He offers him a powerful position within her company, giving him access to the dark and mysterious world he's always dreamed of. However he ultimately refuses and he has him brutally beaten to the edge of his life and threatens to systematically hunt down every single one of his friends and family until he accepts his offer. He wakes up in the middle of nowhere and he must find his way home.
Even with his newfound wealth, Gary finds that his life is now virtually meaningless and with Jackie's threat looming in the future, he is completely lost again. "What is the meaning of life", he starts to question this again.
Then he meets JOHN TRAVIS, an Uber driver who mysteriously says he has 3 days left to live. Gary first thinks he is crazy, but discovers that what he is saying is true and Travis drank the same potion from a Buddhist temple and that the effects are fatal 30 days after drinking it.
Suddenly faced with the knowledge that he only has days to live, Gary decides to embrace his fate and right his wrongs. He realizes he must stop Jackie and her men and after much preparation, he finds a way to defeat them. With little time left, he realizes the relationship with friends, lover and family is the the simple key to good life. He flees to Louise's apartment to say goodbye. He apologizes and leaves her with no explanation of where he is going, but Louise discovers he has left 3 million dollars in her name.
