In 1874, Yu Gangsheng was born in Kowloon Walled City, Xin'an County, Guangdong Province. At the age of ten in 1884, he became entangled in a conspiracy between the Qing government and British opium merchants, resulting in his wrongful imprisonment and brutal treatment. His father tragically lost his life during the ordeal. By 1893, Yu Gangsheng had grown into a young man under the care of his grandfather. Alongside his friends, he dedicated himself to protecting laborers and aiding civilians. During his involvement in the New Territories villagers' resistance against British colonization, he was betrayed and sentenced to life imprisonment by the colonial authorities. In 1997, Yu Gangsheng's descendants witnessed the historic moment of Hong Kong's return to China.
