Diane De Crespin looks on poverty as a crime. She loves and is loved by Paul Lepide, who is poor, and whom she will not marry. She is wooed by Marc Verity, a wealthy man. Full of jealousy, Paul tells Marc that she is only marrying him for his money and that really she only loves him, Paul. Diane calls Paul a cad and breaks with Marc.
