Synopsis

John Lennon is seen approaching Strawberry Field Orphanage in Liverpool, he is in his mid-twenties. He enters the building and walks down the empty hallway he opens a door. He enters a room where we find him in a café in Liverpool, ten years earlier, (ten years younger) he sits at table with Paul McCartney to talk about the issue of the trip to Hamburg with The Beatles . It's revealed that John hasn't told his Auntie who he lives with. Paul believes this is due to John being fearful of her.Back in the hallway John opens another door and he is again back in time, this time he is in the front room the home he shares with Auntie Mimi. A huge argument develops about John going to Hamburg. John's past is brought up and his accusation that Mimi 'stole' John as a five-year-old from his mother. John's phycological hurt is extreme and obvious.John is back in the hallway; he walks along then enter a room. A Younger John is with (Beatle member) Stu Sutcliffe. in Stu's (German) girlfriend Astrid flat, they are messing/playing around amusing themselves. It is obvious that John respects and thinks a lot of Stu.Back in Strawberry Fields John continues his walk, he approaches another door in the hallway and enters. Newly married Cynthia looks after baby Julian in the small flat/apartment that she and John live in. John enters he is in a foul mood due to the slog of touring. An argument starts with John seeming to resent Cynthia and the baby.In Strawberry Fields John opens a nearby door. Three years later In John's large country house, John and Paul make a joint. Then they work on a new song they are getting on well. Paul tells him about a 'break out' of an approved (borstal)school which is a stone's throw from John's old home, Mendips.John opens another door. The scene is again John's large country house Kenwood. Brian makes his way into the lounge John is asleep on a couch the place is a mess. Brian wakes John. He is concerned about the large number of drugs that John has been using, John's not bothered. The talk comes around to the new album Sergeant Pepper John's view that Paul's new found skills in the recording studio is making his a 'large load to bear'.Back in Strawberry Fields John finds himself in front of another door which he opens. He watch George Harrison and Ringo Star sit in the recording studio chatting. They discuss, John leaving Cynthia for Yoko and John getting busted for marijuana possession.Back in Strawberry Fields John finds another door and we are in a plush London restaurant John sits with, shoulder length hair, facing him across the table in American agent Alan Klein. They are discussing a new deal offered to The Beatles by Capital Records, John doesn't want it, he wants to break up The Beatles .John opens another door. In the Apple Boardroom, there is a tense atmosphere. John walk in with Klein. Klein discusses the new deal by Capital. John George and Ringo are disinterested. Klein leaves them to discuss it. Paul suggests accepting the deal and maybe going back on the road. No ones interested and George and Ringo leave the room. Later after 'words' John leaves .John opens yet another door. We are in the US music magazine, where John is being interviewed. The interview turns into a confession . He talks about his childhood and the pain he suffered and his interest in politics and class. His mental health is fully and honestly brought up and pain of being an artist. In the end he confides that: 'All I ever...all I ever wanted was; to read a book (trying to remember); to write a story...not to be sad. To...play my music and not be sad, that's all I ever wanted.'

John walks out off the building in New York and will watch his own dead.
