An eight-year-old boy becomes lost in Mumbai (Bombay). Visiting the big city for the first time, little Sachin becomes separated from his parents at the chaotic, bustling railway station. After being taken in by four street children -the quiet Damu, the always-singing Deva, the jealous Vithu and the motherly, take-charge Rama- Sachin begins to learn the ways of the city. Meanwhile, his father desperately journeys from one unhelpful bureaucrat, policeman, journalist or doctor to another in an effort to find the lost boy, and his mother deals with the needling insinuations and accusations of neighbors and family members.—Tanuj Poddar
