Summaries

Davis French, a stalwart member of the Northwest Mounted Police, is ordered to the coast and is therefore unable to keep an appointment to be married with his sweetheart, Jean Dupres. He writes to her, but she does not receive the letter. She arrives at the appointed meeting place, alone and broke, and must accept the hospitality of a despicable character known only as the "Timber Wolf." When Timber Wolf attacks Jean in her cabin, Pierre Santoi, a fine fellow who has fallen in love with her, kills him with a knife. Pierre takes to the woods and meets up with Davis, an old friend, who reluctantly arrests him. Davis takes Pierre back to stand trial and is instrumental in obtaining a verdict of justifiable homicide; Davis is reunited with Jean, and Pierre sets out for the white frontier.—Pamela Short
