A "nutty professor" reviews and revisits the history of medicine after the Renaissance from the privacy of his own library and laboratory. This retrospective tells us how scientific revolutions had an impact on the theory and practice of medicine, and how the development of vaccines and antibiotics allowed us to successfully control for the first time major epidemics that had in the past decimated human communities.
