A Jamaican family who came to Britain on the Windrush, and a local white family, suffer the effects that racism, hostility and influence has on them between 1948 and 1958. The story focuses on the friendships between 17-year-old white girl, Babs, Jamaican born, Franklyn and Teddy Boy Billy and how racism affects their family lives, their friendship and forbidden romance. Eventually, the divide in the community leads to the worst recorded race riot in Britain and the change the event made against such racist hooliganism.
