Pinky Palkar (Deepika Padukone) is an aspiring skater who dreams of making it big through a national television show (India got talent). The prize money on the show is Rs 50 Lakhs and Pinky believes that this is her ticket out of poverty and her path to fame and success.She is the typical Mumbai Chawl girl who dreams big, despite her lowly surroundings. Pinky lives with her mother and younger brother (Rahul Pendkalkar).Pinky works at a skating rink at a mall with her friend Tina (Palomi).
One-Shot-Nandu (Neil Nitin Mukesh) is a fighter who pummels his opponents in the ring blindfolded. Nandu works for local kingpin Usman Bhai (Piyush Mishra) (who also bets frequently on Nandu's fights) & his right arm man Anna (Kay Kay Menon). Anna has a big brotherly attitude towards Nandu.Nandu's friends are Faizal Lateef Sheikh / Chaddi (Namit Das) and Diesel / Rameshwar Iyer (Viraj Adhav).
Nandu and Pinky live in the same Chawl and Nandu had seen Pinky practice her routine with her dance partner Ajay on numerous occasions. Nandu and his friends had interrupted Pinky and made fun of her. Pinky feels frustrated that the guys will never amount to anything themselves and will try to pull down others who even aspire.Due to the pestering, Pinky changes the location of her practice with Ajay.
Usman had asked Nandu to be the driver on a job that Anna had to perform. Anna tried to discourage Nandu from taking the job, but Nandu took it anyway. Anna wanted to keep Nandu away from Usman's criminal activities. Anna tells Nandu to get a job as a bouncer at a bar.Nandu waited in the car, while Anna completed the job. Nandu was approached by a Eunuch (Pankaj Jha), who Nandu gives some money to.
Anna got shot in the result escapade & Nandu panicked & drove rashly, that led to an accident. At that time Nandu did not know whom he had struck with his SUV. Anna asks Nandu to get down & takes over the car but dies shortly after. The police investigating officer K. K. Sethna (Manish Choudhary) figures out Anna wasn't driving the car & had an accomplice. KK saw that both the front seats had the same footprints at the base, which means that the driver shifted to the passenger seat while Anna drove.
KK interrogates that Eunuch and finds that Anna was not driving the car when it first escaped from the site of the incident.
Nandu finds out that he had stuck down Pinky & pays for her hospital bill, operations & medicines, but can't save her eyes. Pinky was coming back from her practice with Ajay late at night, it was also raining, and Pinky was talking to Tina on the phone and never saw the SUV coming at her. Pinky was found lying in a pool of blood by strangers and taken to a nearby hospital.
Nandu's friends believe that it was Anna who mowed down Pinky with the SUV. Faisal tells Nandu that Pinky is looking at a life of destitution. Nandu is distraught and starts taking out his rage in the fighting ring. Nandu puts all his earnings into Pinky's bank account.
Pinky loses her job but is determined to participate in the dance show. Her regular partner Ajay ditches her & gets a new dancing partner Shalaka.Full of remorse, Nandu trains her to "see" through her blindness, using her other senses. Nandu teaches Pinky to fight back and to feel and react at the same time. In return, she teaches him to skate and Nandu becomes her partner in the competition. They gradually fall in love.
Usman puts pressure on the investigating officer via his seniors to close the Pinky case, but the investigating officer keeps the case open & continues investigation on his own. He finds out that Anna's accomplice had taken a taxi from near the accident site & had gone straight to Usman's house. The investigating office sees this as an opportunity to nab Usman. He traces the accomplice down to Nandu & then takes his fingerprints & matches them to prints in the car that Anna was found dead in.
Soon the auditions approach & despite a mistake, Nandu & Pinky make it through to the next round. In his love for Pinky, Nandu decides to give up boxing & takes up a job as a bar bouncer. This angers Usman. The entire Chawl community comes together in helping Nandu & Pinky train & they pray for their success. Nandu & Pinky make it to the final round. Pinky professes her love for Nandu.
Usman asks Nandu to throw his last fight in exchange for retirement. Nandu agrees when Usman threatens to reveal to Pinky that it was Nandu who caused the accident. Meanwhile the police officer finds Pinky & tells her that Nandu was the reason she lost her eyesight.
Pinky breaks up with Nandu & decides to dance solo in the competition. Her solo routine is boring & she is about to be booted off when Nandu enters the stage, apologizes to Pinky publicly & proceeds to dance an electrifying routine with Pinky.Pinky finds that Nandu threw his last fight to protect her, she forgives Nandu. Both win the talent competition. Pinky convinces the police inspector not to arrest Nandu as he helped rehabilitate her life.
