In 1874, Sayo, imprisoned for killing one of her tormentors, gives birth to Yuki after being brutally attacked by three criminals who murdered her husband and son. Before dying in childbirth, Sayo entrusts Yuki with her mission of vengeance. By 1882, Yuki undergoes intense sword training under the priest Dōkai, becoming a vessel of her mother's wrath.
