Madrid, 1930. Matilde is a young woman from a humble family who lives with her mother and her three brothers. She arrives looking for a job at La Moderna Tea Room, one of the most elegant cafes in Madrid. Before entering she meets Iñigo, her teenage love, a young man he has not seen for eight years, when the tragic death of Matilde's father interrupted his newborn love story. Iñigo is now a well-located young man and right-hand man of Don Jaime, one of the most important businessmen in the city. Passion resurfaces between the two young people, but Carla, Don Jaime's wife and former girlfriend of Iñigo, whom she has not yet given up, is not willing to allow it.
