Synopsis

SPOILER: The movie starts with Chico, Gaby and Fern, doing a "protection money" collection from an election candidate in Old Montreal. Once the coup done, Chico goes to meet his boss, Raoul, a mobster which fronts as a businessman for anglophone leads. As Chico heard that a gang in New York is looking for a candidate for a hit job, Raoul tries to inform that no one is interested because the job's too big and risky. However, Chico decides to go ahead, but Raoul warns him that he will stay clear if anything happens.

One week later, a big Greyhound bus arrives in Montreal, as Chico, with a briefcase and a luggage, is greeted by Rita, his ditzy girlfriend. As he is surprised Gaby is not there to greet him too, he leaves Rita and founds Gaby in his motel in Brossard. Chico told Gaby that all went well in New York and want to hide his cash wages (50.000 in US dollars) in his honey factory.

Later, Chico shows Gaby his new condo, boasting that there is no immigrants around except for cleaning and let a gay man decorate his apartment. He also told that Gaby would have love New York as many luscious black ladies are common there and promises that more contracts will be on the side later.

At one point, Chico gives Rita attention as he buys her some expensive jewelry. However, once they're out, the owner makes a phone call to report that he paid with U.S. Dollars. Then, the duo want to celebrate on the racetrack, where they spend mostly on horse bets and champagne. Raoul's bodyguard, Angelo, passes by and asked Chico why he was not in town to play cards. Rita mentions that he went to New York for business. Though Chico try to cover the lie, Angelo has doubts and leaves the duo. Unhappy with Rita who was indiscreet, Chico told her to pick up the earnings of his winning bet while he goes away.

At the garage, Chico tells Fern that he did the hit in New York and somebody from the local mob will try to reach him. However, when he answers the call, no answer is given but he fakes answers on the call to reassure Fern.

At the building's swimming pool, Chico tells Gaby the plan of a big party he will organize with friends and hookers for a weekend. However, Rita is unable to reach anyone (most give excuses they won't be able to go) and Chico suspects that he was abandoned despite his coup by Raoul.

Meanwhile, two hitmen crosses the border and head for Montreal, to find and kill Chico and anyone involved in the coup.

Chico kicks out Rita for her safety. He let Gaby out with her to get a cab. But once she is gone, the duo goes downstairs at the garage to their car, to find out their driver Fern is killed and a suspicious car gets away.

Gaby then volunteers to clear out Chico's reputation to Raoul, at his risk, but promises to come back at 11PM. In the meanwhile, Chico, very deceived of the sudden betrayal of his fellow mobsters, decides to take the risk and speak to an overnight talk radio show. However, after a first attempt and fearing that he would be a target if he stays home, he goes away.

He goes to the late Fern's garage and calls from a phone booth, but has to leave the door open to not let him being seen. He reaches the talk radio show host Yvan Bedard and starts to confess his crimes, like the hit done on mobster Frank Anastasia in New York, and that his Montreal boss Raoul gave the tip for the job. The two hitmen passed by the garage but did not see him in the dark.

Gaby is at Raoul, who interrupts his card game and let only his trusted bodyguard Angelo next to him while others leave away. Gaby tries to clear Chico's name, however, accidentally, Raoul told that he gave the tip regarding the hit job. As Gaby attacks Raoul by treating him as an hypocrite, Angelo knocks him and attaches him on a chair.

The two American hitmen arrive at Chico's apartment, only to hear that he is speaking again to Bedard and let loose of everything's going on in the Montreal Mob scene. They call Raoul directly and let him hear what's on the radio. Outraged, Raoul and Angelo brings Gaby for a ride, not before beaten up severely.

Chico's confession grabs attention of a crime newspaper journalist at the radio station. The journalist informs Bedard of who is this guy (real name François Tremblay), who did everything to gain trust and go up the latter of organized crime. Bedard promises the journalist a full scoop first thing in the morning.

Out of options, Chico goes to Gaby's Motel, where he can continue his conversations and confess about "money laundering" and "time in prison", better that what real people expected as he boasts. However, he worries about his friend Gaby. The latter, after a ride listening to Chico's confessions in Raoul's car, is killed by Angelo as he is thrown in the St-Lawrence river.

Later, Bedard has a visit from the cops, asking him to call the radio station owner to trace the call with the phone company or he will face consequences. Bedard calls his boss at bed with his wife. Though reluctant, he calls the phone company to avoid any lawsuits regarding this matter.

Chico continues his call, but is unaware that Bedard is with the police. After killing Gaby, Raoul goes to an employment agency for nude dancers to tell Jean-Louis to lie to the police (even the RCMP) about any suspected operations, while he takes the cash from the safe. However, when he takes the elevator, Angelo (possibly with links with the rival New York gang) kills Raoul.

As the hitmen almost arrive at the motel to attack Chico, he notices that Bedard is no more in his studio, as he was talking on the phone inside a reporter's car on the way with the police. As the hitmen arrives, Chico manages to get some bee boxes and trap the hitmen in the basement and locks them with the bees on the loose.

Shortly after, Chico sees the motel surrounded by cops and Bedard. As the latter volunteers to speak with Chico (the cops warn him that they are not responsible for any accidents), the mobster does not recognizes his voice and assuming he betrayed him, he kills the radio man and shoots everyone around, until a bullet is shot (the picture freezes still as the movie ends).
