Catherine goes through all the travails of a young woman who must deal with a scheming stepfather out to dupe her of her inheritance.

The happy life of Catherine and her widowed mother changes for the worse when Pablo and his family move in as their tenants. In no time at all, her mother marries Pablo and provides for his entire family, and Pablo's daughter wants Catherine's boyfriend for herself. As if these aren't enough, Catherine kills Pablo's son when he attempts to rape her. Pregnant by her boyfriend, she ends up in jail.
