Japan in 1598. War has raged for ten years. The last samurai standing begins his journey home after asking Kotou, his old sword, to protect him one final time. The walk home is long. In the shadow of Mount Fuji, the samurai is challenged by a ninja who will let him pass in peace only if he gives him Kotou. The samurai refuses; a fight ensues.
