Typical scenes from the life of Bulgarian partisans in the years of the antifascist resistance.

Danyo, a member of an underground group, has to join the partisans after an action in the city goes wrong. The police track him down and detect the partisan unit. Milka and Mustafata get killed in the ensuing unequal battle. Following this setback, Danyo takes over the command of the unit from Bogdan. Meanwhile Bogdan learns that his wife and children has been killed. Danyo is rash rather than brave. Ipatient to avenge the death of his father who has been killed in police custody, he orders a hit-and-run attack on the police station. He insists that the group of police captured in the action be shot. The HQ of the unit the partisan zone appoints Bogdan commissar of the unit and details him to help the inexperienced Danyo. Trying to get over his own bereavement, Bogdan believes that taking the law into their own hands will not decide the issue. The two start arguing and Danyo wants to go to the city to find out which of them is right. However, the partisans are surrounded. Danyo pays with his life for his rashness.
