The movie is about Bertram and his family who in order to get money for a new flat are caught up in Uncle Georg's attempt to kidnap a rich boy. But things don't go as planned.

Bernard has everything money can buy, but his filthy-rich Kopenhagen banker father is never home, so he gets obediently spoiled by patiently abused butler Mikkelsen. Father Jakobsen is just released from prison, but mother failed to pay the rent and is hospitalized exhausted, while the family with four schoolkids, who were already stealing at school, is evicted. They have no place to go but uncle Georg, whose smuggling 'job' landed dad in jail in the first place. He convinces the kids to 'innocently' abduct Bernard from his lavish costumed birthday party for a million krone ransom, with benjamin Bertram as same age playmate-lure. They actually all enjoy the 'adventure', but father is furious to find out and butler Mikkelsen seizes his chance to tell the banker it's a ten million ransom, luring the Jakobsens into arrest so he can retire on the ransom. Bernard however sides with his new friends and mounts a rescue and revenge.—KGF Vissers
