Mek Nak died while giving birth to her child while her husband was working far from the village. An evil midwife took her baby and told the villagers that Mek Nak had died along with her child. Mek Nak's ghost then returned to seek revenge and haunt the villagers. When her husband returned to the village, he saw his wife waiting with their child.
