Milton Higby, an inventor of gadgets that don't sell finds himself accused of a crime he didn't commit---the killing of a girl he had just met---, and takes to the open road with the police in close pursuit. In his travels, he stumbles across the body of another murder victim and switches identities with the corpse. An architect considers himself an inventor, but all of the gadgets he invents don't sell, and the pressures begin to affect his marriage. One weekend when his wife is out of town, he goes to the racetrack with a friend and winds up winning quite a bit of money. He parties with the friend and two girls they meet.
